In java Nut Grass [Akar Teki] is used as astrigent [antipasmodic] in case of diarrhea. Other uses are as antiperspirant lotion, in a decoction as ache [chewed or powdered rhizomes] and against abscesses, e.g. under the nails.

Reported constituents are essential oil and non-volatile constituents e.g. resinous substances, starches, sugar and an alkaloid. In test, the oil inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, but not some other organism.

Perenial pseudo-grass [culm 3-angled], height 10-75 cm. To be distinguished by its terminal green-brown flowers with three bright yellow staminal anthers, forming compound spike inflorescences, united as umbels; also by triangular, brown, 1.5 mm long fruitlets.

Locality
General weed in java, up to 1000 m above sea level. A pantropic species, also found in Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, Indo_China and Malaysia.
