Pine-apple (Ananas comosus) is a kind of tropical plant from Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay. These plants included in the pineapple's family (Family Bromeliaceae ). Now cultivated in many tropical countries, incl. Indonesia,Malaysia,Philipina,Thailand for edible fruit.In Indonesia, Lampung province is a major pineapple/Nanas growing area, with some pineapple processing factories. Stature ( habitus ) of low vegetation, herbaceous ( chronic ) with 30 or more leaves are long, sharp-tipped, arranged in a rosette around a thick stem.Up to height of 0.5, with a rossete of narrow, thick, thorny leaves.The fruit is in English called a pineapple because of its shape like a pine tree.The inflorescence consists of fleshy ear with a corolla of leaves at the top. The inflorescence becomes juicy during the ripping process and builds a pseudo-fruit the pineapple. The plant dies after fructification. It multiplies vegetatively. Hummingbirds are natural pollinators of this fruit, although many insects also have the same role.

The young fruit of pineapple is strong diuretic, an emmenagogue and a strong abortive. The juice is a vermifuge ; Besides the tamarind the juice of the ripe Nanas/pine-aple fruit is taken to treat fever, as laxative, as a remedy for stomachache, a tonic for agood digestion and as gargle (throat-ache,diphtheritis). Constituens of ripe fruit are sugars(dextrose,saccharose), organic acids, proteins (e.g enzymes like the protease bromelin), a trace of vanillin.
